It may or may not look like someone else’s way of homeschooling.
Before I answer this, I want to preface the answer with a story. Hopefully, this will help you or someone you know.
Early on in my homeschooling career, I sat with other homeschoolers as we waited for children in their Physical Education class at a local university.
Some parents were instructing some “newbies” new homeschooling families who had inquired about the portfolio process review.
This particular parent had done her research on what was mandatory and what “they- the board” could recommend and what the parents of obligations were - or were not.
Other parents began to chime in on where and when they met the . One parent was adamant about letting them in your home. Another said you could meet them at the library.
Now, I will be the first to admit that I have seen some things over the years on both sides of homeschooling. And I have even experienced some questionable moments.
But overall, I won’t complain because at the end of the day, like Joshua said, “As for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord.” For I won’t be ashamed of the gospel.
So what does it mean to Homeschool God’s Way? This means that I am willing to serve and understand that this is my ministry unto the Lord. He called me to it.
I accepted - recognizing that it is an honor and a privilege to be able to instruct and teach my own children day in and day out.
To watch them learn, grow and mature.
All the while, being able to pour into their lives while watching them achieve and reach their personal goals and flourish as siblings, students and friends.
So homeschool is not “us” against them or vice versa. It is a choice to homeschool with excellence unto the Lord.
Not trying to prove anything to anyone.
Just submitting to the authorities over the homeschool a.k.a the Board of Education (BOE) while providing an excellent learning experience by showing up and bringing my “A” game.
The same way that you would expect a teacher to do daily.
However, I am not willing to lose my focus by putting my eyes on my fellow homeschoolers.
I won’t be taking the time to compare or compete.
My job is to run the race that the Lord has set out for our family to run and complete.
It may or may not look like someone else’s way of homeschooling.
It matters not.
What matters is that this ministry called homeschool brings Him glory and honor.
That I show the love of Christ and teach (at minimum) what the state requires and that our children have been challenged and enjoy their homeschool experience.
And when they graduate they are more than prepared to walk into the fullness of God’s plans and purpose for their life without apology or regret!
